Turn a still image into a short animation

Start with a photo that clearly shows the subject you want to animate. A visible face, an unobstructed object or a simple foreground gives the AI a useful reference. Use the movement field to explain what should happen inside the scene. You might ask steam to rise from a cup, a character to wave or a light to travel around an object.

Image to GIF works from one source photo per generation. The AI creates the motion from your instructions, so the result can include changes to texture, shape or small details. Compare the preview with the source and choose an action that keeps the important parts of your image recognizable.

Prepare your photo for upload

Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB and 4 million pixels. If a phone photo is larger, resize it before uploading. Keep the subject well lit and leave space around the area that will move. A tightly cropped hand or head has less room for a wave or a turn.

Use a photo you have permission to process. For a group photograph, start with a simple shared gesture and inspect everyone in the result. For an object with a label or fine lettering, keep the object still and try a subtle lighting effect that you can review against the original.

Describe the motion and choose your format

Write one clear instruction in the prompt field. Try “Steam rises slowly from the cup while the cup, table and camera stay still.” If you want a repeating gesture, describe the subject returning to its starting pose. The prompt can contain up to 600 characters.

Open Prompt ideas & options to select square or landscape format and approximately two or three seconds of playback. Square output is 320 × 320 pixels and landscape is 320 × 240 pixels. Every standard GIF contains 16 frames. Choose the format that gives your subject enough room to move.

Preview the loop and save your GIF

Select Generate GIF after checking the credit cost and balance. Processing can take a few minutes. Watch the complete animation when it appears, including the transition back to the beginning. The file repeats automatically, and loop continuity depends on the generated motion.

Use Download GIF to save the result. Check your destination’s upload requirements before adding it to a message or webpage. If you want to try a different motion, edit the prompt and generate another version using the displayed credits. To create an entirely new scene from a description, open Text to GIF.

Photo to GIF Questions

What image can I use for photo-to-GIF animation?

Use one JPG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB and 4 million pixels. A clear subject, good lighting and some space around the intended movement give the animation a useful starting point. Resize a larger image before uploading it.

Does image to GIF create movement inside my photo?

The AI generates an animated interpretation using your image as its reference. Describe the action you want, such as rising steam or a gentle head turn. Details can change during generation, so compare the result with your original before sharing it.

How many photos do I upload for one GIF?

Upload one source image for each generation. Choose the photo that best shows the subject and use the prompt to describe its movement. The resulting GIF contains a generated sequence of 16 frames.

What size and duration will my image-to-GIF result have?

Choose square format for 320 × 320 pixels or landscape for 320 × 240 pixels. The duration options are approximately two or three seconds, with timing rounded to GIF frame intervals. The download repeats automatically.

Can I try photo to GIF for free?

The service offers one free GIF in total across both generation modes. Signing in adds no extra trial credits. Each standard generation uses 5 credits. Check your available balance in the tool and visit Pricing for one-time credit packs.
